The Dilemma | 75 gigawatts of battery applications with grid operators, blessing or curse?

Update

Netbeheer Nederland recently reported in a position paper on grid congestion that it has counted no less than 75 gigawatts of applications for battery connections. What does this number mean according to Jacob Jan Stuyt from SemperPower?

 

How is the market for large-scale batteries in the Netherlands doing?

"We are incredibly busy. SemperPower has just taken over two large projects from EPC contractors, Castor and Pollux. With these, we now have a total of 140 megawatt-hours live in the grid. These batteries are being used by tenants for grid balancing and day-ahead trading. Over the next five years, we want to develop further towards 1.4 gigawatts of flexible capacity."

 

Is that capacity also in the pipeline?

"Things are going well. For example, we are currently closing a project of 100 megawatts. However, in reality, there are only two players in the Netherlands that actually have operations of this size and type online. They require a lot of capital to..."
